August lunch was a very relaxed occasion particularly as the summer weather allowed us to enjoy our pre-lunch drinks and natter outside on the Club House Terrace.
Chairman John Goodhead had no special presentations and the Speaker didn't need introducing being our Speaker's Secretary Bill Scott!
Our meal of Haddock Wrapped in Parma Ham with Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Cous Cous, Broccoli & Rich Tomato Sauce was delicious as was the dessert of Chocolate Orange Mousse with Chantilly Cream.
Following our meal Bill Scott entertained us with a talk about the two volcanic islands Madeira and Iceland.
Bill has holidayed on both islands and had plenty of photos to illustrate the fire and ice of Iceland and the lush valleys and high peaks of Madeira. We heard about the history of the Iceland and the Scandinavian settlers and the Portuguese colonisation of Madeira. Both rely on tourism for their economies these days and several in the audience had explored them.
Thanks Bill for an interesting and entertaining talk, just a pity we couldn't sample a glass of Madeira Wine whilst listening to you!
