As is now our custom, Club Chairman David May and his wife Barbara welcomed us all with a pre-lunch glass of prosecco in the bar, and after a leisurely chat with friends we made our way to the dining room for a traditional Christmas Lunch of turkey and all the trimmings followed by Christmas Pud and Mince Pies, a great start to the festive season.
Our after lunch speaker was Rosemary Horton and her topic was 'English Cheese Please'. Rosemary gave a most interesting and entertaining talk and although I think we all had some general idea how our cheese was made, I doubt if many of us were aware of the multitude of by-products arising from its manufacture. Apart from the whey powders for body-builders, there are the fondant fillings for chocolates, the mousse for Milky Way and it's a key ingredient of your Baileys Irish Cream! We also got to sample some cheese, a Wensleydale with ginger, and traditional Stilton, very tasty.
After Rosemary's talk we came to the final part of the lunch, the transfer of the Chairman's Collar and Gavel. David May said how much he had enjoyed his year as Chairman and thanked the members of the Committee for their help before handing over his Badge of Office to John Gilbert our Chairman for 2020. John thanked David for his contribution to the Club and hoped for an equally successful year in 2020.
