We had a good start to our Jubilee year, welcoming a new member to the Club and then congratulating two of our members on reaching the age of 80, each given a customary bottle of claret.
After a meal of fish pie followed by a chocolate brownie with ice cream, we were given a most interesting talk by Mike Curtis entitled “Sea Dogs., Pirates and Privateers”, covering the history of such sea-faring opportunists as Sir Francis Drake, in the days of Elizabeth I, to “Calico Jack” Rackham, who was active, until executed for piracy, in the reign of George I.
