January 2023 Lunch Report

A most encouraging start to the year as our new Chairman Michael Fisk was able to welcome thirty two members and two guests for lunch, the highest attendance for nearly twelve months.

Following the excellent meal of Chicken Normandy with creamy apple cider sauce followed by a blueberry frangipane tart and ice-cream we were entertained by Louise Camby with a talk entitled My Grandad's Music. Her grandad was Johnny Douglas the multi-talented musician, conductor, musical director, arranger and composer.

Johnny started his musical career very early being able to play a tune on the piano, albeit one fingered, when not even three. He had heard a record playing the popular at the time "The Washington Post" and repeated it on the piano! From such a flying start Johnny enjoyed a spectacular career in the music industry spanning over fifty years and including such highlights as composing the music for the film "The Railway Children" which he accomplished in just three weeks.

I suggest for the full story of his life, you visit his record label Dulcima Records which is maintained and managed by Louise and family. (https://dulcimarecords.com/biography/).

Thank you Louise for a most entertaining talk, we look forward to seeing you again.
