This month it was Tony Parfitt's good fortune to receive a celebration bottle of bubbly from Chairman David May to mark his ninetieth birthday. We all dined on a rather spectacular slow cooked pork taco followed by a chocolate fudge cake, luckily no-one was calorie counting!
Our speaker was Andy Batehup who entertained us with tales of his sixty year career in the construction industry. I was amazed as he described building a multi-storey office block in central London from the top down, and then proceeded to tell us how difficult it was to demolish the same building a couple of decades later from the bottom up! I lost count of how much concrete was needed for Stanstead Airport runways, but it was a lot of lorry loads.
